NGO to work with Juvenile offenders

June 16, 2012 8:03 pm

An NGO called Really MAD which stands for Really Make a Difference is working with the Social Welfare ministry in reforming juvenile offenders.

Programs director – Stuart Yagomate says the three month program will cater for the first 16 youths referred to them.

Yagomate says in trying to get these troubled youths to open up, they have to find out what led to them committing the offence.

“We spend time with them in trying to get them to feel comfortable with us and we also try to ascertain what led to their committing the offence. We know that these things take time but to get them started on the program has been quite positive.”

Yagomate adds while change does not occur overnight, there is hope for these youths to prove their worth to society.

A report will be submitted by the organisation to the Ministry after the training.
