The National Gallery of Contemporary Arts is expected to open its doors by 2020.
The Gallery which is a joint project between the Fijian and British Government will be located on Victoria Parade next to the Fiji Development Bank in Suva.
Project Manager Sally Ward says the building which is a heritage building will house all forms of art.
“There will be spaces where artwork will be hang on the wall. There will be spaces for sculptures in the gardens and gallery. There will be spaces for education – where art classes will be held. There will also be a recording room for songs and rehearsal spaces for dance.”
Ward says the design for the Gallery has been finalized and they will now be focusing on demolition and refurbishment of the building.
She adds the first phase of the project was funded by the Fijian government.
