NFP lashes out at FijiFirst General Secretary

November 4, 2018 4:00 am

National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad has hit out at FijiFirst General Secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum for criticizing NFP’s manifesto.

Prasad says Sayed-Khaiyum is pulling figures from the air when he said that NFP’s minimum wage plan will cost $700million.

He says their plan will not even cost 1/10 of that amount.

Prasad adds that people only have to read the Auditor-General’s report to see the wastage and abuse of Government funds.

He mentions that when he was the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, he began asking the hard questions, and claims that the FijiFirst government than changed the parliamentary rules.

Prasad says the government spends hundreds of millions on roads every year but claims that this money is badly spent.

He claims that while people are living in poverty everywhere, they are building new roads in some of the richest places in Suva.

”When NFP talked about the minimum wage, Fiji First said nothing. Now Fiji First is getting rattled. Now, they say they will study the minimum wage. After 12 years, all they can say is that they will “study” the minimum wage. This is the same government that tried to close down the unions. This is the same government that locked the workers at ATS out of their jobs.”

Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum had earlier said that NFP’s manifesto will raise the national debt by over $2billion each year.

Sayed-Khaiyum adds this will put Fiji into a deep crisis within the first 100 days and cripple Fiji’s economy.
