NFA urges Fijians to adhere to their advisories

January 13, 2019 4:23 pm

National Fire Authority Chief Fire Officer Qionilau Moceitai says sometimes they are late to attend fire incidents because of the failure by drivers to clear the way for their fire trucks.

Qionilau says this is one of their main operational challenges.

He notes that because of these issues, the private fire alarm system is a great aid given the technological advantage it allows of detecting a fire before it fully develops.

“Once they see the beacon flashing, they should make way for emergency vehicles or fire trucks to go through because they are attending to one emergency .That’s one of the problem that we have been faced in the past and I am urging drivers to please support us.”

Meanwhile the NFA is working to increase their fire service personnel, having conducted a recruitment drive last week.

The Chief Fire Officer notes that this is in line with the Authority’s strategic plan to enhance their service delivery.
