The National Fire Authority plans to re-locate its headquarters in Suva from Walu Bay to Samabula.

The NFA has submitted its plans to the Suva City Council and is waiting for an approval.

Chief Fire Officer – John O’Connor says they plan to build a fully-fledged modern headquarters.

However, he says the entire project now depends on support from residents living around the site in Samabula.

“NFA headquarters with the communication equipment, with the relevant technologies, a library to re-search, a training and a board room – we also want to use it as a redundant fire station so we will have other facilities too – just in case we have a Tsunami warning or floods and our Suva fire station is affected – we can re-located our operations to that one.”

O’Connor says while a move from the Walu Bay site is definite, they are yet to decide the fire station will be closed down.

The cost of the move is yet to be determined.
