Engineers play an important role at the National Fire Authority.

The NFA says these are experts who investigate and look into the details of fire incidents including causes.

NFA Chief Executive, Manasa Lesuma confirms there is a lack of engineers in the country.

He says the NFA is working on strengthening its relationship with other stakeholders such as Australia’s Country Fire Authority, which will help them look into the shortage issue.

“They bring in their experts and work with ours at the same time while doing the investigation we are also learning from them but that’s an area that the Board has directed me to look into ,to capacity build our people and strengthen that area of authority.”

Lesuma says once engineers are available then they will help the Authority in some of it’s fire investigations.
