The Fiji Meteorology Office will open a new office in Labasa today.
Director Ravind Kumar says the new office will enable their services to be taken closer to the people in the Northern Division and nearby islands.
Kumar says they will have four permanent officers that will look after their networks.
“Our staff will be situated which will be looking at the networks and they will ensure that the network within the Northern Division and surrounding islands are up and running at all times that feeds information to the national weather forecasting center for the national forecast.”
Kumar says the new office will also be open to the public to be more aware of how a weather office operates on a daily basis.
He says the $1.2m capital project took around two years to construct.
