New wage regulation order due tomorrow

August 14, 2012 1:04 am

The new wage regulation order is expected to come into effect from tomorrow.

Ten industry-based wages councils were given until yesterday to submit their proposals to the main body.

Wages Council Chair Father Kevin Barr says 12 employers have objected via written submissions to the proposed increase saying it is too high.

On the same note a number of employees have voiced their concerns that the increase is not too high because of the current cost of living.

FMF Foods Limited which employs close to 1000 workers agreed to the $3.10 per hour minimum wage rate.

The previous rate was $2.75 per hour.

FMF Group Manager Human Resources Ashok Nath says while the business returns, profit margin and investment remains the same, the increase will have to be accepted as it is already been agreed by the Wages Council.

Labour Minister Jone Usamate will comment later.
