The new Tui Labasa will be installed in a traditional ceremony at the chiefly village of Naseakula this morning.

The chiefly title has been vacant since the late Marama Tui Labasa Adi Salanieta Tuilomaloma Qomate Ritova died in November of 2016.

Ratu Jone Qomate has been confirmed as the new holder of the title.

FBC News understands the ceremony will begin with a church service.

This will be followed by the traditional installation or ‘vakagunuvi’ at the Naseakula Village grounds at 10am.

Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere will lead his chiefly clan of Caumatalevu to install the new chief.
