Central Division’s to get a new Remand Centre at Korovou.
Work’s already begun on the project and in six months the new facility will provide remand services equal to the best overseas centres.
Commissioner of Correctional Services Colonel Ifereimi Vasu says the new centre is aimed at changing the mindset of the offenders.
The new Remand Center, will be built at the Old Boys Center a few meters away from the existing facility.
Cellblocks will be constructed here to house 2 hundred remand prisoners who are currently accommodated at the Korovou Remand Centre.
Head of Correction Services says the new $4m building is aimed at changing the mindset of the offenders, assisting their rehabilitation.
Once the center is completed, it will also accommodate illegal immigrants.
After that it will be Lautoka’s turn for a new remand center.
