New Queens Counsel for Arya case

The defense in Kamlesh Arya’s case today told the court that they will be engaging a new Queens Counsel.

The new Queens Counsel is Gregory Woods and will be assisted by Vijay Maharaj.

Arya is charged with one count of abuse of office and one count of general dishonesty causing a loss by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption.

The alleged offences occurred between January and December 2014 while the accused was the Acting School Manager for Bhawani Dayal Memorial Primary School in Nakasi.

It’s alleged that Arya authorized loans amounting to $116,500 from the Free Education Grant provided by the Education Ministry to the primary school.

The matter has been adjourned to March 27th for pre-trial conference.

The trial will be held from 15th to 30th April.
