Major General Jioji Konrote has been sworn in as the new President of Fiji.

President Konrote took his oath of office at Government House before government ministers, members of the judiciary, diplomats and invited guests.

He becomes Fiji’s fifth President since Independence.

Konrote’s appointment is historic for Fiji as he is the first commoner to be appointed to the highest office in the land.

He is also the first Rotuman to be President.

The Presidential appointment is for a term of 3 years.
