Having a newly built court house at the Nasinu Magistrates Court will help ease the large excess of cases that often cause enormous strain on its staff.
This was highlighted by Chief Justice Anthony Gates at its ground breaking ceremony in Nasinu yesterday.
He says the court house was at first a very small one however over the years it has become extremely busy.
Gates says the new court house will soon have more magistrates and tribunals.
“We have two resident Magistrates sitting at Nasinu today. Soon we will provide four Magistrates at this center. The small Claims Tribunal sits here as also from time to time the LTA tribunal. Other tribunals such as the Employment Relations Tribunal and Tax Tribunal can also hear cases here. As part of the Access to Justice Programme we intend to bring the courts wherever possible to the users of the court system.”
The court house will include facilities such as courtrooms, Magistrate Chambers, cell blocks, administration, exhibit rooms to witness rooms and other support officers.
