Works have started on a new $35m Nakasi Police Station.
The groundbreaking for the project was done by Minister for Defence and Foreign Affairs Inia Seruiratu.
The Minister says with more than 25,000 people living and working in Nakasi and surrounding areas, Police services must compliment the flourishing economic environment by aligning services to the needs of the community.
The Minister acknowledged the overall reduction in crime recorded at the Nakasi Police Station for the last three years.
He says the fact that Nakasi contributed 19% of the crime in the Eastern Division in 2018 should ring alarm bells if we are to maintain public confidence in the Nakasi Police Station’s ability to keep the communities and businesses safe and secure.
Construction will be completed by late 2020.
