New Museum to be built in the western division

A new museum dedicated to the history, legacy and contribution of Girmityas and their descendants to Fiji, will be constructed either in Lautoka or Nadi.
Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they have allocated five hundred thousand dollars for the 140th commemoration next year.
“We are very proud to announce that we have set aside a very special allocation of $500,000 for commemoration next year of the 140th anniversary of the first ship carrying indentured labourers and Girmityas from India to Fiji”
He says the commemoration also includes nationwide ceremonies of remembrance and cover the first round of funding of $300,000 towards the construction of the museum.
