New Mosi retention dam to be constructed

July 21, 2018 4:35 am

*During the commissioning of the dam, Minister for Waterways Dr Mahendra Reddy says the retention dam will help in reducing floods in the Nadi area.

Dr Reddy says it is vital to have the retention dam, especially in flood-prone areas.

“The purpose of retention dam, when there’s massive rainfall up here in the catchment, the dam will retain the water and release it slowly so that you don’t have all the water gushing down at one point in time and therefore the water is not being able to be handled by the existing waterways.”

Dr Reddy adds that the Mosi retention dam will be the fifth one in the Nadi area after it is constructed.

The work will be completed in eight months costing $1.9million.
