The Sigatoka Hospital will soon have a new maternity ward if Coral Coast hoteliers have their way.
The current state of the maternity unit leaves much wanting and resort operators are now in discussions with the government to fund the new facility.
“Our biggest challenge at the moment. To build a new maternity ward at the hospital.”
The number of women seen at the maternity ward is increasing.
Hoteliers believe their initiative will ensure that the best services are available to not only to tourists but locals as well.
“We’ve had a lot of discussions with the ministry of health. There are a lot of babies in the Coral Coast.”
Work has already started with the business community and the people of Sigatoka raising funds for the project.
The new maternity ward is expected to cost one point five million dollars and the Coral Coast hoteliers Association will match every dollar raised.
