New maternity hospital opens in 8 miles

Expectant mothers in the greater Nasinu-Nausori corridor will no longer have to travel to CWM hospital as a new maternity hospital is now open in Makoi 8 miles.

Health Minister Rosy Akbar says the 16 bed hospital for low risk mothers will improve maternity services.

While opening the maternity hospital, Akbar says this will also ease the pressure and demand at the CWM hospital.

“The new health facility has been equipped with enhanced equipments and resources to take our services to a much higher level. It is here that our expectant mothers will get the much needed medical care and advice to give birth to healthy babies. Here our children will be vaccinated against diseases that once preyed on their health. It is also here that our women and children and families will be educated about maintaining proper diets and healthy lifestyle that will help prevent NCD’s.”

The Makoi Maternity hospital will have doctors, nurses and mid wives.

Akbar says a total of $6.83 million has been spent on the construction of the hospital while $300,000 has been spent on the modern equipment’s.
