New LTA board to meet Transport Minister

The new five member board of the Land Transport Authority board will meet with the Transport Ministry for the first time in Suva on Friday.

Speaking to FBC News Parveen Kumar says he has directed the board to look into issues that needs to be addressed immediately.

However, many of the issues raised in regards to LTA’s services needs legislative changes.

‘’I ask the general public to be patient because there is a process that needs to be followed. Once the committee prepares the report it goes to the cabinet and after that it will be tabled in parliament and the time frame we’re looking at is close to 8 or 9 months’’.

The new board is headed by Suva lawyer Vijay Maharaj.

Other members are RFMF Landforce Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho, Vodafone Fiji Chief Financial Officer, Divik Deo, businessman Ashok Patel and a former LTA Operations General Manager, Aptinko Vaurasi.

The Permanent Secretary for Transport and LTA Chief Executive are the other board members.

Meanwhile, Parveen adds the current board will have to deal with the current legislations but there are certain policy matters the board will re-look at.
