The new Laqere Market is nearing completion.

Local Government Minister, Parveen Kumar says with the construction of the building almost complete, they’re now working on the cafeteria section together and the tables for market vendors.

Kumar says the new market will help reduce the number of vendors selling along roadsides on the Suva – Nausori corridor.

“It’s around 5 million dollars that we have spent on the market and the surrounding but let’s not forget it’s not only about the construction cost, but the whole idea of doing that market is to get this road side vendors at one place. In fact Nasinu did had a larger market so considering that the location, I think that’s the best location to have a market and now basically almost everything is done and we are ready for the grand opening .”

Kumar says the new market is expected to open by next month.
