The Fiji Roads Authority has constructed new footpaths along Fletcher Road in Vatuwaqa, Suva to improve pedestrian safety.

FRA’s Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says this was quite challenging as there were four high voltage cables underground.

He says this was a risk factor during the works however, the project was completed within three months.

Work included design of footpath, driveways and drainage to comply with relevant standards, excavation and removal of existing footpath and driveway and construction of new kerb and channel.

He said the new and improved footpath will benefit school students with clearly defined path away from motorized traffic as well as improve access for the residents living in Vatuwaqa.

This project is under the Footpath Renewals Contract- Central Division.
Meanwhile, the FRA is continuing to scope for other suitable sites in the Central, Western and Northern footpaths which will soon be tendered for construction.
