New culverts to address flooding in Siberia

May 12, 2018 10:01 pm

Years of constant flash flooding during torrential downpours will now be a thing of the past after new culverts were installed along the Siberia Branch Road in Labasa.

The road is the main link into Labasa town, as well as to the nearby divisional hospital.

The access road is used by up to 300 residents.

Fulton Hogan Hiways, working under the Fiji Roads Authority, has opened up outlets to the nearby river, allowing for trapped and stagnant water to escape.

Blocked drains have also been cleared.

The previously flood prone stretch has also been graded and resurfaced with metaling work.

Residents in the area have also been urged to help keep the drainage clear of any debris, as well as to avoid dumping of rubbish into them.
