Permanent Secretary Joshua Wycliffe
The Ministry of Environment has put in place a new complaint management system.
This is expected to be launched soon.
Permanent Secretary Joshua Wycliffe says this new platform will allow people to directly lodge their complaints regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment process directly to the Ministry.
The EIA is used to identify the environmental, social and economic impacts of proposed developments.
Wycliffe says the EIA directly addresses the Biodiversity Loss.
“If we don’t follow the EIA it’s basically suicidal. Without doing the EIA it’s suicidal to biodiversity, its suicidal to our environment. We want to protect our environment and EIA is a regulatory instrument and we all want to follow that carefully.”
Wycliffe says they are also carrying put round table discussions to create awareness on the procedures undertaken for the assessment.
