New Civil Service scholarship to be introduced

A new civil service scholarship scheme will soon be introduced.

This is to support the professional development of civil servants thereby raising the level of service delivery and $2.3million has been allocated to fund sixty awards.

Ten awards will be offered each year to civil servants to purse a postgraduate’s diploma or master’s degree abroad in areas of need within the civil service.

While fifty awards will be offered to in-service teachers to upgrade their qualifications as 30 will be to upgrade to a bachelor’s degree.

Teachers in the Maths, Physics, English, Literature, Information Technology, Industrial Arts, Special Education and Early Childhood Education will be eligible for this upgrade.

Twenty awards will be to upgrade to a post graduate degree and this will only apply to teachers in the fields of Maths, Physics, English and Literature.

A Post Graduate Scholarship scheme will also be introduced and it will offer 50 awards each year for postgraduates studying locally at a registered higher education institutions.

Forty awards will be for the upgrade to master’s degree, of which 20 places will be reserved for civil servants.

While 10 awards are for candidates to pursue a doctorate degree of which five places will also be reserved for civil servants.
