New centre to increase opportunities for women empowerment

September 17, 2015 4:05 am

The new Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre in Nasinu will provide skills training and economic empowerment opportunities for women from all walks of life.

The Ministry signed a MOA with the Fiji Muslim Women’s League, in May this year, to support the project by committing $100,000 funding and $17,000 worth of industrial sewing machines.

The centre has accommodation facilities for 20 to 25 women who will travel from outside Suva to receive training for a certain period of time before starting their businesses.

The centre was initiated through a significant contribution from the Islam Development Bank, a partnership which allowed the Fiji Muslim League to pursue this project.
