The Social Welfare Ministry has moved a step ahead in ensuring that the goal to reduce poverty in Fiji is achieved.
The Ministry in partnership with the Fiji National Council for Disabled People opened Fiji’s First sewing centre for single mothers and disabled women.
Social Welfare Minister – Dr Jiko Luveni says this will encourage self sufficiency and improve the livelihood of less fortunate women.
Dr Luveni says 10 social welfare beneficiaries and 5 women from FNCDP will undergo three months training by FNU professionals.
Social Welfare beneficiary – Vaseva Seini says they are overwhelmed with the support from the Ministry.
“We are so lucky that we are given the opportunity to attend this course for three months. I have already known how to control the machine but in cutting the garments, I think it is a great opportunity for me to come and learn and to help my family.”
Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy who has provided funds for this initiative has promised to support the Fijian Government in its efforts to promote the well being of Fijian Women.
Chinese Ambassador – His Excellency – Huang Yong says this will be a good way to promote practical skills in women in Fiji.
