Around 2,500 people will benefit from the new Coqeloa Bridge in Labasa which is currently under construction.

The $4.39 million structure is being built after years of requests from the communities in Coqeloa.

Advisory Councilor Mohammed Yunus says the Bridge will bring great relief especially to the farming community.

“The old bridge was there and due to that bridge, it was bit of unsafe and also an accident happened whereby a vehicle fell from the bridge due to no barrier on the sides. So it was just a bridge for the Fiji Sugar Corporation – they were using for the rail trucks to go on the other side of the road.”

A request for the new bridge was made to the government six years, as the existing one was deemed unsafe.

The existing structure has been demolished to make way for this new one.
