New boat to boost health services

The Australian government has given a new boat to the Ministry of Health to help boost medical services for the people of Yasawa.

Health Ministry spokesperson Peni Namotu says the boat will be used to transport patients from the different villages to the main health centre.

Not only that – Namotu says it will also lift the standard of service for medical officers as transport is one of the major problem of the maritime zones.

Basically medical evacuation is one of the problems that we face in the island and boat is the only means of transport that is usually provided to get the people to the mainland or health facility.

The boat will cater for about 3,000 people in the Yasawa’s .
