The new Archbishop of Fiji Father Peter Loy Chong has taken up office from yesterday, four years after Father Petero Mataca announced his retirement.

Father Peter Loy Chong was welcomed at the Catholic church headquaters yesterday and met with senior church officials.

Father Chong says at first news of his appointment was unexpected.

He says he wants to re-look at how the church deals with everyday issues faced by his flock.

Suva’s Vicor General Father Beni Kaloudau says, Catholics around Fiji will miss Father Petero Mataca, who’s served for more than four decades.
