All persons with disabilities who meet relevant requirements by the National Council of the Disabled persons will now receive a new monthly allowance of ninety dollars.
Chief Executive, Dr. Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa says the council has welcomed the new funding of eight million dollars as allowance from the government.
”This is a history for the council and also for persons with disabilities, this is a big one, this is a big step forward for all of us. Those social welfare officers that are working in the field will do the identifying and the assessment and will be able to give us the information on who fit into the criteria of permanent disability.”
Minister responsible, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says certain modifications will be done to the scheme to ensure it is best utilized.
The government will continue tax deduction for wages paid to employees with disability.
