People in Nepani Nasinu, have been living with a stench from a leaking sewer line for four months now.

This leaking sewer pipe has been causing headaches for hundreds of people in Nepani, most are unable to spend a few hours in their home without a foul smell.

John Aqulala, who lives about thirty meters from the sewer line, says they’ve been complaining to the Water Authority of Fiji for a few months.

“They just came in today this morning to check. i think the four of them came down to check then went right to the other side to see what’s going on, they said they will try to clear today but you can see it now.”

According to the Water Authority the last complaint from the area was in 2013, but engineers did visit the scene yesterday after queries were raised by FBC News.

The stench is unbearable for almost three hundred residents of Nepani. They have been complaining for the past four months and only just yesterday the water authority vehicle showed up to deal with the issue.

The Water Authority says the sewer line has been blocked.

A detailed inspection showed that someone has removed the manhole lid allowing soil, sand and gravel and rubbish to be deposited into the manhole causing blockage.

WAF team were yesterday on site clearing the blockage.
