The National Council of Women Fiji will support women who wish to contest the general elections.

Council General Secretary, Fay Volatabu says the only barrier faced by the council is that not many women have taken the step to make use of the opportunity.

Volatabu says they have to create awareness programmes and campaigns to ensure more women enter into parliament this year as a way to address the issue

“We have already started visiting and now we are going to start our workshop this month and next month, where we talk to youth, talk to members of the communities at large that when it comes to leadership, you need to celebrate the role that women play right from the home and right up to parliament and right now, we have a speaker in parliament, we have a leader of opposition in parliament, and it doesn’t rest there, that it must continue to ensure that there is a balanced perspectives in all rounds of leadership in our land."
