NCDs policy to be implemented in all govt agencies

The Health Ministry has put together a Strategic Plan to combat Non Communicable Diseases that they plan to roll out in all government ministries this year.

Minister for Health and Medical Services Jone Usamate says the fight against NCDs has to be taken seriously.

Health Minister Jone Usamate says the Strategic Plan has been endorsed by Cabinet and will need to be addressed by all arms of Government.

“We will be introducing it now and obviously these government departments have not budgeted for these things but as things begin to roll on over the next two to five years hopefully the momentum will pick up and become embedded into the things they do on a normal basis.”

Usamate says it is time for a different approach – to include everyone in the fight against NCDs.

He adds that currently 40% of children between the ages of 13 to 15 are obese and by the time they get to the age of 40, then 60% of them are obese.
