NCDP works to empower persons with disabilities

The National Council for Disabled Persons recently conducted tour in the North to empower persons with disabilities.

Executive Director, Dr. Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa says the Council is working towards creating opportunities for persons with disabilities, by allowing them to become independent individuals.

Yanuyanutawa says they also equipped these people in the rural areas of Taveuni, Buca Bay and Labasa.

“We donated power tools and other what we call modern equipment for training. These are for individuals who have completed training with us on carpentry, joinery and other vocational skills like tie and dye and other things like flower decorations.”

Yanuyanutawa says the skill and equipment donated to these individuals are vital in their daily use particularly in rural settings.

He adds a talanoa session was also held, where a number of other issues within the community settings were addressed.
