Nawaikula claims voting is still based on racial lines

“The results of the 2018 General Election clearly depicts voting is still based on racial lines.”

This was the claim made by Opposition MP, Niko Nawaikula while delivering his maiden speech in parliament.

Nawaikula also claims that the results showed trends of past elections.

He says the idea of equal citizenry is far-fetched.

“The Indo-Fijians for their security voted for FijiFirst abandoning NFP and FLP. All native Fijians except for the 147 or so that voted for FijiFirst – voted for SODELPA because they value their culture, their tradition and their group rights because they value their rights which are under attack by the FijiFirst government.”

However, government MP, Vijendra Prakash says Nawaikula needs to leave his racist mentality behind.

“It is indeed time for Mr Nawaikula to change and try and think something constructive to assist in national building, assist in the rural development and to assist in taking the nation forward.”

Nawaikula also claims over the past four years the public did not embrace FijiFirst policies, which he believes indicates why the party won the 2018 general election by a smaller margin.
