Navy Day to be celebrated in Suva tomorrow

More than 400 Fijian Navy officers and sailors will celebrate Navy Day in Suva tomorrow to recognise the efforts and hard work of the personnel’s.

Navy Commander Captain Humphrey Tawake says it’s been a week long celebration since Sunday with activities planned for each day however, the main event has been planned for tomorrow.

He says it will be a day of festivity to celebrate 43 years of service since its inception on July 25th, 1975.

“We’ve gone quite a long way since our initiation in 1975 with Ratu Mara and his vision for the Navy envisioned for Fiji as a maritime nation and also to enforce the ratification of the law of the sea so within those 40 years we have progressed and we have evolved as well so we are trying to progress as we speak into the future.”

Captain Humphrey says there are more than 400 navy personnel on the ground compared to 150 when the Navy started operations in Fiji.

Chief Justice Anthony Gates will be the main guest with the celebration to begin at 11am.
