Navua businessman guilty of rape

Navua Businessman Govind Sami has been found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of indecently annoying a person.

Suva High Court Judge Justice concurred with the opinion of the three assessors who earlier this afterboon returned with unanimous opinion.

The three high court assessors found 62- year- old Sami guilty of two counts of rape and one count of indecenty annoying a person.

The incident happened between July 2014 and October last year 2016 when the woman was employed as a maid at Sami farm house in Navua.

Justice Temo said that Sami took advantage of the woman who had no choice but to submit to his demands.

In mitigation, Sami’s lawyer informed the court that Sami is a first offender married with three children.

The lawyer also submitted that 45 employees depend on him.

Sami will be sentenced tomorrow.
