Villagers of Vanuabalavu in Lau are starting to feel the brunt of Tropical Cyclone Mona.

68-year-old Tevita Fotofili from Lomaloma says as of yesterday afternoon, they started to experience light showers and the wind speed picked up.

Fotofili says with TC Mona forecast for the Lau Group, they are now taking all precautionary measures.

“It’s raining abit now and the sea is a bit rough and it’s a bit windy too. We are just putting up hurricane shutters on the windows and put some nails on the main windows and main doors and we’re filling up the small boats with water that they won’t get blown away easily if the winds does increase.”

Fotofili says they are also keeping updated with the latest weather reports through the radio.
