10 people are currently taking shelter at the Vunitaqaca evacuation centre in Serua.

This as strong winds started picking up in the last hour.

Rural and Maritime District Counselor Johny Sylvester says he helped the two families move to the evacuation centre as winds have started to affect their houses.

Sylvester adds the strong winds has caused tree branches to fall on the road causing it to be closed off.

He says the rain brought by the impending cyclone is causing the water level in Serua in increase.

The 50-year-old says power is currently off in the area.
