TD03F expected to move southeast towards Fiji: Vereivalu

A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain lies slow moving over the group.

For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti
group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands and the eastern parts and
the interior of the larger islands- expect periods of rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

The low pressure system that was analyzed near Solomon Islands on Friday was upgraded to a Tropical Disturbance yesterday.

Fiji Meteorological Services Acting Director, Viliame Vereivalu says that TD03F remains slow moving and is expected to move southeast towards Fiji in the next few days.

“The Fiji Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation closely. Any alert and warning will be issued as and when necessary in the coming days. Members of the public are advised to remain updated with the latest weather information and take alerts and warnings seriously.”

Meanwhile, a flood warning remains in force for low lying areas adjacent to and downstream of Naqali station.

Water Level at Naqali station was 3.85m at 7am today which is 0.35m above warning level and decreasing.

A flood alert remains in force for low lying areas and areas adjacent to major rivers of Vanua Levu.

All communities living in flood prone and landslide areas are to remain alert as severe weather conditions are predicted in the next few days.
