TC Ana intensifies into category 2 system

Tropical Cyclone Ana has intensified into a category 2 system at 1.30 this morning and is expected to make landfall over the Ra Province.

Fiji Meteorological Service Senior Forecaster Samisoni Waqavakatoga says TC Ana tracks over the ocean and gaining momentum as it approaches Viti Levu.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service TC Ana track map, the eye of the system is expected to pass over Suva at 1.30pm today.

Waqavakatoga says the eye of TC Ana moved over Yasawa-i-Rara just before midnight.

“While TC Ana lies to the North of Viti Levu, the whole of Fiji Group has started feeling gale-force winds from last evening. With the centre out at sea, gale force winds should be felt throughout the country and it will become stronger as the eye of TC Ana moves closer”.

The Senior Forecaster says the active convergence zone associated with TC Ana is affecting Vanu Levu with strong winds battering parts of the Northern Division.
