Schools on standby as evacuation centres

The Dreketilailai crossing in Labasa
School heads in the Western and the Northern divisions have been advised to be on standby.
Schools will be used as evacuation centres when the need arises.
National Disaster Management Office Director, Anare Leweniqila says they are closely liaising with the Education Ministry.
The river at Boca, Bulileka in Labasa, swift flowing with lots of debris.
Leweniqila says school heads have been informed on the necessary steps that need to be taken if TC Mona intensifies.
He says at this stage no evacuation centres have been activated but they will do so when the need arises.
The Director adds all emergency operation centres are operating on a 12 hour basis as they continue to monitor the movement of Tropical Cyclone Mona.
NDMO is advising the public to be well prepared.
