Rescue effort underway in Bagata Savusavu

There is widespread flooding in Belego Savusavu as the Bagata River has burst its bank.
Resident Monisha Lata says many homes are underwater as water levels continue to rise, however, there is no information on whether families have evacuated.
Lata says her father and other men have rushed to rescue three other families from Bagata settlement where water levels are also rising.

She adds there are twelve people trapped in Bagata because they have no means of escaping the floodwaters.
Lata told FBC News that a rescue team from Belego is using a punt or canoe to reach flooded homes in Bagata.
The trapped family members have been on their own since this morning.
