Police on normal routine duties also on standby [Source: Fiji Police]

Police officers who are currently on normal routine duties are advised to be on standby if the weather deteriorates.

Chief of Operations ACP Maretino Qiolevu says with more than 600 officers currently part of the emergency operations team, they will get more officers if the need arises.

“Our police coverage include mobile patrol and foot patrol. There were about 603 police officers throughout the nation, throughout the night and we were beefing up in towns and also monitoring evacuation centers up till now.”

ACP Qiolevu says they have recorded no incidents so far in evacuation centres and has assigned some officers to be present in every evacuation centre.

Police are urging Fijians to be prepared and keep away from flooded areas.

They are working closely with the National Disaster Management Office and other Ministries to provided necessary assistance when required.
