Nananu villagers move to RKS for safety

Nananu villager Gabriel Rigamoto says sea level continues to rise and is breaking their seawall.

Rigamoto says the vulnerable group have been moved to safety and they are awaiting the arrival of the school truck to transport them to RKS.

“The movement of this wind, we are not certain how long most of these houses can hold. But at the looks of things we might be heading up to RK for safety reason. The rising sea levels and the strong winds, yes probably early in the morning or sometimes tonight, the truck might come and pick the people up.”

Rigamoto says roofing iron and other debris have started to fly around the village as wind is picking up speed.

Nananu village were severely affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.
