Flooding at Naduru, Nausori.
A flood warning remains in force for the entire Fiji group with the rainy weather expected to continue over the next 72 hours.
Acting Director Meteorological Services, Viliame Vereivalu says flooding in low lying communities will continue to be a concern throughout this week.
The expectant rainfall and already saturated soil from the last 48 hours of rain acerbating already vulnerable areas.
“Heavy rainfalls in the evening, especially for the Lau and Lomaiviti group and the Eastern part of, the interior of other larger islands and elsewhere it will be cloudy periods and afternoon, evening showers and possibly there is thunderstorms with heavy falls. So localized heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas as the condition of the soil now is saturated.”
The Acting Director is urging all Fijians to regularly monitor the weather reports and to move to higher ground where they can.
In addition to heavy rainfall expected, Vereivalu says thunderstorms are also forecast which is why they are stressing to those in vulnerable areas and communities to make the move during daylight.
