Heavy rain alert in force

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the whole of Fiji group.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Services, the situation is attributed to a trough of low pressure which lies slow moving over the group.

Associated cloud and rain to affect the whole country.

The forecast for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau group, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, the Northern and Western parts of Viti Levu.

Occasional rain, heavy at times and a few thunderstorms, rain becoming frequent from later today.

For the rest of the group, occasional showers, increasing to rain and few thunderstorms from later today.

Localized heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas, so those in flood prone communities need to be vigilant and make the necessary arrangements.
