The flooding in Labasa town.

A sudden heavy downpour early this afternoon led to the flooding of some parts of Main Street in Labasa.

After mid-day, the heavy rain caught many by surprise and within minutes, drains started filling up and overflowing on to the streets.

Vehicle owners had to remove their cars from parked spots along the streets due to rising waters.

Along Park Street, it was also the same case. Council workers could only stand by and watch as the street was under water.

Along Sangam Street, Council workers were onsite to inspect the flooding and see how they could clear the drains.

Along Hospital Road, water from the Macuata House carpark overflowed onto the road and into the nearby drain, flooding the footpath.

Blocked drains and culverts have long been an issue for the town.

Littering has also been identified as a contributing factor to blocked drains and culverts.
