Evacuees urged to help clean-up

January 8, 2019 10:01 am

Evacuees and communities in the Northern Division have been urged to assist in cleaning up schools that were used as evacuation centres.

Commissioner Northern, Jovesa Vocea, says various school managements have started cleaning up classrooms and compounds in preparation for the new school year.

Vocea says with the first school term starting next week, it would be best if the clean-up can be done now.

Most of the evacuation centres that were used in the Northern Division were schools.

The seven evacuation centres that are still active and occupied from last night are expected to be vacated today.

The only one that will remain open today is the Qalitu Primary School evacuation centre at Nabalebale, as the river level is still high.

43 evacuation centres were activated in the Northern Division during TC Mona.
