There has been little contact with Tonga since the underwater volcano eruption yesterday.

Communications with Tonga have been down since yesterday evening, with reports that power has been cut in Nukualofa.

Concerned family members took to social media, asking for their families in Tonga to reach out to them as soon as possible.

Tongan authorities will have a clearer picture this morning of the scale of the damage.
